SCANDIUM ARMS

Defence Procurement since 2008

•Scandium and Scandium Arms were founded in 2008 by Mr. Aiman Awad, with formal incorporation completed in 2009 alongside the establishment of a UK-based defence company. Operating under the Scandium and Scandium Arms brands, the Group initially focused on the global procurement and supply of firearms, defence systems, and military equipment to government armed forces.

•Between 2009 and 2010, Scandium partnered with a Turkish defence manufacturer to design and produce a distinctive tactical shotgun, marking the Group’s early involvement in product development and manufacturing collaboration.

In 2013, Scandium Defence (Pty) Ltd was established in Johannesburg, South Africa, extending the company’s reach across Southern Africa and neighbouring regions.

•In 2019, Scandium further strengthened its international footprint with the establishment of Scandium Arms Savunma Sanayi ve Ticaret Limited Şirketi in Ankara, Türkiye, operating as an independent Turkish defence company. This strategic expansion enhanced the Group’s global standing and significantly broadened its defence procurement capabilities, particularly across the Middle East and Africa, where its client base grew steadily.

Mr. Aiman Awad is the Founder, Owner, and Chief Executive Officer of Scandium Arms Savunma (Türkiye), Scandium Holding and its subsidiaries (United Kingdom), Scandium (Zambia). As well as Scandium Defence (PTY) Ltd (South Africa). A British-born entrepreneur educated in London, Mr. Awad has been actively engaged in business ventures since 2000.

His longstanding interest in global economic dynamics and geopolitics naturally led him to develop a strong focus on the defence sector. In 2008, he conceived and established the Scandium brand—defining its identity, strategic vision, and operational framework—with the objective of launching a defence procurement enterprise in London. The company was initially focused on supplying firearms and ammunition to military clients both within the United Kingdom and internationally.

Through a strategic collaboration with a Turkish partner, Mr. Awad successfully contributed to the design and development of a tactical firearm between 2009 and 2010. Over time, he cultivated strong relationships with government entities across the Middle East and Africa, enabling the company to expand its capabilities and tailor its services to meet evolving client requirements.

In 2013, Mr. Awad further strengthened the group’s international presence by establishing Scandium Defence (Pty) Ltd, an independent defence company based in Johannesburg, South Africa. During the global pandemic in 2020, Scandium demonstrated its adaptability and innovation by developing a proprietary tri-valve, military-grade protective mask for use by police and military personnel. Building on this momentum, between 2021 and 2022, Mr. Awad led the development of a range of firearms for military and law enforcement applications, alongside the production of Scandium-branded small-calibre ammunition through a third-party manufacturer.

As Scandium earned the confidence and trust of numerous government clients, its operations expanded, necessitating the establishment of additional international branches. While loyalty, integrity, and trust remain the foundation of the company’s ethos, its defining strength lies in its ability to deliver comprehensive defence solutions and logistical support in complex and challenging environments. Mr. Awad’s expertise in navigating procurement processes and overcoming logistical obstacles has been instrumental in the company’s continued growth.

With established operations in the United Kingdom, Türkiye, Zambia, and South Africa—and plans for a forthcoming office in the Middle East—Scandium maintains a strong global footprint and competitive advantage. Looking ahead, Mr. Awad intends to further expand into the MENA region and establish a dedicated manufacturing facility by 2027, enabling the company to broaden its portfolio and produce advanced defence products.

In recognition of his achievements and the company’s performance, Mr. Awad has secured official representation agreements with several of the world’s leading defence manufacturers under the Scandium group of companies.
